Very popular with cyclists, the ascent of Risoul became, especially with the passage of the Tour de France in 2014, known worldwide to the cycling public.
The final climb to Risoul has become a mecca of world cycling. She saw the Tour de France, 2 critérium du Dauphiné, a Giro d'Italie, a tour of the future, 2 Haute Route …
Thousands of viewers were able to appreciate the difficulty of the ascent and the beauty of the landscapes, while vibrating to the suspense of the end of stages. This is why it has become a meeting ground for thousands of fans who join the prowess of champions.
Each corner is embellished with a panel that reminds a stage winner.
Colombian Alexander Quintana Rojas, double stage winner on the resort, will not say otherwise… to cross the lead line in Risoul 1850 you have to know how to climb! Indeed the reward is earned after an ascent of 14 km at 6.7% average that separates the plan of Phazy from the snow front of the resort. Classified in 1st category the difficulty goes crescendo until reaching its paroxysm in the penultimate kilometer and its slopes at 9% average. The climb winds through the heart of a colossal forest of Mélèzes which offers, intermittently, a splendid view of the valley of the Durance and the Fort of Mont-Dauphin, bathed in the background, in the vertiginous whiteness of the Pelvoux and the massif des écrins.
