Grand Ridge Tour
Reserved for experienced hikers and lovers of wide open spaces, this outstanding loop takes you through some of the wildest and most spectacular landscapes around Risoul.
Throughout the route, the mountain reveals its remarkable diversity. You'll walk through ancient larch forests, follow high-altitude trails, cross several summits and hike along magnificent ridgelines offering breathtaking 360° views over the Southern Alps.
As you gain altitude, the scenery becomes ever more impressive. Valleys, alpine pastures and surrounding mountain ranges unfold before your eyes, revealing exceptional views of the Écrins National Park, the Queyras, the Parpaillon Massif and the Durance Valley. Every section of the trail offers a new perspective, making this hike a true immersion into the high mountains.
Long, demanding and physically challenging, this loop requires good fitness and careful preparation. In return, it offers an unforgettable experience for hikers wishing to discover Risoul's wildest side.

Allow a full day for this hike, start early in the morning and always check the weather forecast before setting off. Weather conditions can change rapidly along the ridges.

The ridge sections offer some of the finest viewpoints in the Risoul Rando Park. On a clear day, you can admire several of the Southern Alps' most iconic mountain ranges.

Mountain ridges are natural viewpoints. From a single spot, they allow you to admire several valleys and mountain ranges that shape the landscapes of the Hautes-Alpes.
Route Description:
Start from the D2 trailhead (P2 upper metal car park).
The route begins by following the old Risoul road for around 20 minutes. A signpost then directs you onto an uphill trail leading to Pointe de Razis (2,575 m).
From there, descend the opposite side before climbing again towards Col de Valbelle. At the top of the pass, the ridge trail leads to L'Homme de Pierre, a famous viewpoint overlooking the Embrun Valley and Lake Serre-Ponçon.
The descent then begins, mostly through the forest, until you reach Martinat Hut, where one last spectacular viewpoint awaits you... We'll let you enjoy the surprise!
From Martinat, allow just under two hours to return to the Risoul snow front.
