The National Monuments Centre is hosting "The Battle of Little Big Horn" – a 10-year (renewable) permanent exhibition by artist and sculptor Ousmane Sow in the fortified village of Mont-Dauphin.
Fascinated by cultural groups with close spiritual ties to African ethnicities, Sow began studying Native American history and culture in 1995. He then undertook the creation of a series entitled "The Battle of Little Big Horn", comprising thirty-six sculptures including eleven horses and twenty-five oversized characters representing ten combat scenes. All of the works were sculpted using a technique developed by the artist, consisting of reinforced concrete bars covered with hessian cloth, then coated with a special finish. Relive the famous battle that opposed Sioux and Cheyenne Indians and the United States Federal Army in 1876 through this world-unique voyage under the exceptional Philibert Delorme-style wooden ceiling of the Rochambeau barracks.
